ISO 41001 Facility Management
Facility management (FM) integrates multiple disciplines to influence the efficiency and productivity of economies of societies, communities, and organisations, as well as the way people interact with the built environment. Through the services it manages and delivers, FM influences the health, well-being, and quality of life of a large portion of the world's societies and population.
Despite the fact that FM has such a broad impact, global recognition of its principles and practices has been lacking. This document serves as the foundation for a shared interpretation and understanding of FM and how it can benefit organisations of all sizes.
The presence of an uniform worldwide framework and supporting standard will help the development of the FM services sector. The sector benefits from a standardised framework for assessing and measuring FM. This is the primary motivator and goal of this document.
In a globally competitive context, FM organisations and providers must communicate with one another and with interested parties using standard ideas, concepts, and terms, including performance assessment and measurement. This paper is meant to elevate the standard of care and quality levels, fostering organisational maturity and competitiveness for FM delivery.
Improved workforce productivity, safety, and health and well-being; improved communication of requirements and methodologies among and between public and private sector organisations; improved efficiency and effectiveness, thus improving cost benefits to organisations; improved service consistency; providing a common platform for all types of organisations are all benefits of an integrated system standard for FM.
